Which Bottle Fits Which Cup Holder Expander

Two numbers decide everything: the inside width of your car's cup holder and the widest point of the bottle you want to carry. Grab a ruler or a tape measure; it takes a minute.

Car cup holders are usually between 2.5 and 3.9 inches across. Bottles range from about 2.2 inches for a slim can-style tumbler to nearly 6 inches for a 64 oz jug with a handle.

  1. Measure the holder

    Measure straight across the top opening of the cup holder, inside edge to inside edge. If it tapers, measure about an inch down, where the base will sit.

  2. Check the shape

    Round and slightly oval holders work. Square, very shallow or lidded holders don't give the base enough wall to push against.

  3. Measure the bottle

    Find the widest point below the lid. For tumblers with a handle, measure the body and note whether the handle sits high or low.

  4. Match the ring

    Up to 4.2 inches: our fixed-ring expanders. Up to 5.9 inches or a handle that sticks out: the adjustable-arm expander.
